Spool bearing change for Daiwa reels without need for Spool Pin removal tool (i.e Daiwa Tatula, Daiwa Alphas)

This tutorial covers the Spool bearing changes for reels that does not have the Spool bearing on the spool itself. i.e. Daiwa Tatula, Daiwa Alphas, etc

For spool that requires the Spool pin removal tools -> We will post up soon
For Shimano reels without the spool pin removal tools -> We will post up soon

DaZ Tackle Hut carries different brands and type of Spool bearings, you can check what is available from the links below

We are using the Daiwa Tatula CT Type R for this tutorial
The spool is supported by 2 bearings, we will start off with the bearing on the non-handle side plate first.
Typically the side plate is held by with the brake dial screw or a retaining screw thats run thru from the handle side.
Back off the screw to loosen the side plate
Model using Brake Dial Screw
Remove the side plate, usually with a slight twist. For some models with a spring loaded screw, you will have to pull the screw and twist at the same time.
After removal of the side plate
Use a pointed tip object, i.e. long sewing needle to remove the clip that is holding the bearing in place.
Do be careful as the clip is prone to fly out when it is dislodged.
Bearing is exposed and is held by a wire clip
Simply pull out the bearing of the the socket and change to the new bearing.
Reverse the precedure to install the side plate back.
Change the bearing once the clip is out

We will move on to the bearing of the handle side. This is not a complex procedure but is a tad troublesome only.
Remove the Retainer screw, then the retainer (the Purple color metal piece in the picture) and then the handle nut.
The handle will then be remove easily.
Screwdriver and a spanner is required
Once the handle is removed, remove the star drag by turning it in the same direction as you are loosening the drag pressure. Back off all the way until the star drag can be removed. Do take note of the sequence of the springs, muts, washer, etc. When installing, put back in the same sequence.

After removal of the handle and star drag
Remove the screws that is holding the side plate, in this case it is 3 screws on just one side. Some reels have 4 screws or have screw on the other side. Once the screws is removed, the side plate pops out easily.
Check your reel schematic if you are not sure. Do not force open.
The spool bearing is located at the side plate once you open it. This model is held by a star shaped metal washer holder, some models are held by a metal clip.
Simply remove the washer or clip to access to the bearing to be changed.
Some models are held by a metal clip instead of the star shape washer
Change the bearing once the holder (star washer or metal clip) is removed.
Reverse the procedure to put the reel back together again.
Bearing is easily removed one the holder is out
